Lorraine Watry, NWS Freelance Artist
Lorraine's Biography

Lorraine Watry knew from an early age, when classmates Lorraine Watryadmired her drawing ability, that she wanted to be an artist.  With this goal in mind, Lorraine earned a BFA from the University of Colorado Boulder with an emphasis in Studio Art.  After taking classes from Brookhaven Community College in Dallas, TX, she obtained an internship with a graphics software company.  This internship grew into a paid position and Lorraine became adept at designing and building clip-art in the art department.

.

Lorraine and her husband, both Colorado natives, moved back to Colorado in 1990.  In 1994, she would treat herself to a beginning watercolor class and take a break once a week from being a full time mom of three. This first watercolor class had a life changing affect. Once Lorraine picked up a watercolor brush she never put it down and is now in her 16th year as a watercolor artist.
.
Lorraine's watercolor style, colorfully idealized realism, is often a surprise to many viewers who think of watercolor as loose and soft.  Not only does she still love watercolor, she loves to teach and demonstrate, as well. One artist reviewer wrote: "Undaunted by the crowd, Watry donned her apron, sat down with a large pallet of colors, and painted as though she were comfortably seated at home."
.
Lorraine has had paintings juried into many national and international watercolor exhibitions and is an award winner.  In October of 2011 her painting "Stained Glass Waterlilies" was juried into the National Watercolor Societies(NWS) 91st Annual Exhibit.  Her painting won the HK Holbein award and Lorraine's painting was selected for the NWS 1 year Stained Glass Waterlilies - Award Winnertraveling show.  Lorraine also received Signature membership in the National Watercolor Society in October of 2011. Lorraine has also had paintings juried into prestigious shows like:  Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, Colorado Watercolor Societies State Exhibitions, Pikes Peak Watercolor Societies International Watermedia, Louisiana Watercolor Society 34th Annual, Watercolor Art Society Houston 27th International, Kansas Watercolor Society Great 8 Exhibition, Montana Watercolor Society Watermedia, and more.
.
Lorraine is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society. She is a Signature member and past President of the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society.  She is also a Signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society.  She has taught beginning to intermediate watercolor for the Pikes Peak Community College and summer "plein-air" workshops.  Lorraine's original paintings hang at Arati Artists Gallery in Colorado Springs where she also sells cards and matted original bin work.
.
Along with her love for watercolor, Lorraine has kept her hand in the graphics side of the art world, as well.  She has used her computer graphics knowledge to create promotional pieces for local businesses including: business cards, logos, postcards, letterhead, brochures, computer icons, flash screens, and booth graphics.
.
Lorraine is excited by the ever changing environment of the computer world and looks forward to all of the artistic possibilities available to her. Lorraine continues to explore the wonderful medium of watercolor and continues to challenge herself by entering national juried exhibitions.  She hopes to pass on her love of watercolor to other artists through teaching and continue her own journey in the graphics world through learning.
